Doug Griffiths is the principle author of 13 Ways To Kill Your Community, a must read book for anyone who is involved in community development at the local level.
As an MLA, Doug Griffiths is co-author of the government report Rural Alberta: the Land of Opportunity which led to the creation of the Rural Alberta Development Fund.
Doug Griffiths was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta at the age of 29 for the constituency of Wainwright in a by-election on April 8, 2002. He was re-elected to the Legislature to represent the constituency of Battle River-Wainwright on November 22, 2004, March 3, 2008, and for a fourth term on April 23, 2012.
On May 8, 2012 Mr. Griffiths was named Minister of Municipal Affairs, a position he was originally sworn into in October 2011.
Previous appointments include serving as parliamentary assistant for the Department of Finance and Enterprise and as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Doug Griffiths has a passionate interest in promoting the well-being of Canadas prairie communities. Co-author of Rural Alberta: the Land of Opportunity report, at one time the youngest MLA in Alberta, now serving his third term in government, he has visited most of the 422 communities in the province to learn first-hand about the special challenges that confront small and not-so-small communities in the 21st century.
