Mermaid, PE, Founder of the Mikunduri Children of Hope Foundation

MAKENA AMBASSA is a resident of Mermaid, PEI, from where she operates an
entrepreneurial food service business, featuring
African specialties which are popular at the Charlottetown Farmers’
Market, the University of Prince Edward Island and on the catering
circuit.  Makena is an active mother and sponsor for a large extended
family, including her own children, nieces and nephews,
plus numerous friends and associates from Africa and elsewhere.  These
relationships build on linkages between PEI and Kenya
dating back two decades and more.

Makena is a founder of the Mikunduri Children of Hope Foundation,
established more than ten years ago to maintain linkages between
PEI and Makena’s home community in Kenya, and to provide support for the
children and families of Mikunduri.   Through the Foundation,
the PEI community has supported initiatives including new community
wells and provision of nursing services.
